Make a decision to get Hired

After looking for a job, I subscribed to Indeed Job Alert and Career Builders job alert and sat back, complacently waiting for jobs to miraculously appear in my inbox. Little did I know I was just not ready for a job! Ever had that feeling? Call it lazy, call it exhaling, call it what you may, but sometimes house work just needs to be done, a vacation just needs to be had and the lawn and garden just needs to be done, day after day after day. Let’s face it, working is necessary but few people enjoy it, especially when you’re working in an atmosphere that is emotionally draining. There are some who have the perfect job, and they’re amongst the minority. Others aren’t so lucky and we laboriously wake up, get out of bed and go to work day in and day out just to bring home a paycheck that doesn’t meet our financial needs. Naturally, we’re not in a rush to get back to work.

So we’re unemployed and nothing has changed, we’re still in need of income but we’re still in the “exhaling” phase. How do we nonchalantly find employment? Will the job boards that I already receive emails from suffice? Well, although these websites send you email EVERY DAY, you need a lot more to obtain a job than just filling out an application that hundreds of thousands of people have already perused and submitted an application for already. Think of it like starting your own business, we all need a competitive advantage, and competing for jobs that others may be more qualified for may be disadvantageous. But I’m sure we already know this. The fact is, in order for us to begin doing the things that we know we should, we’ll have to make a decision to get a job.

Now that we’ve made a decision, what exactly do we do? No one knows you better than you know yourself so think of a field that you are qualified for and start there. After you have decided to pursue a field, start by doing some of the same things that I’ve done, create a profile on every job board that you can and create automatic job searches that are sent to you daily. Next, it is very important to visit larger corporate websites directly as these companies rarely use job boards to post positions. Websites such as Deloitte and Touche, Bank of America, Price Water House Coopers are just a few of the companies that rarely solicit on job boards. You should also contact old employers and ask to be re-hired or simply communicate your plight to them so as to begin networking. There are other things to do that should aid in getting us re-hired:
Consider taking a job you might be over-qualified for
Contacting job placement agencies
Contacting the department of labor for available positions
Going to specialty websites like http://www.jobsinlogistics.com/ or http://www.executeam.com/

These are all great ways to get re-hired but remember, be your self and be very clear of your strengths and weaknesses. Showcase your strengths using a resume tailored just for you. Some careers require a cover letter while others don’t so know your industry. If you need help with any of these services, the guys at http://www.rightfitresumes.com/ have one of the most affordable professional resume writing packages available. Prices for a resume start out at $79.00. If I can be of any help, please email me here.

  1. The website list was really helpful. I found jobs that weren't listed on carrerbuilder or monster and I didn't know where else to look for job posts online.
